Service-Learning & Action Research

What is "Service Learning" & What is "Action Research"?
.....and what does the one have to do with the other?
____________
"Students may volunteer in a low-income neighborhood and learn about "food deserts"* and leave it at that, or those same students may take action on what they've learned and investigate ways to work with local growers to make fresh vegetables more available in that neighborhood."
(quote from one of our partners)

Design Coalition Institute works with faculty, students, and professionals on a wide variety of community projects. Students benefit from authentic exposure to the broad spectrum of community issues by working in partnership with organizations that engage those issues through action-oriented grassroots programs. Our grassroots partners benefit from the skills, talents, and thoughtful civic-mindedness of our student volunteers.
____________
We work with grassroots partners to identify service-learning opportunities and work with faculty partners to recruit students who have the requisite skills and talents. Potential partners and interested students may review case studies of recent projects by following the links below.
