Natural Building Techniques: Faswall Foundation

Faswall (and Durisol) is a commercial wall-form material that is 85% recycled wood. The forms are stacked dry (no mortar) and then the cores are filled with a soupy mix of concrete. The result is a wall that has good insuation (R-22, for the 12" thick (30 cm) wall, including insulation inserts), excellent fire resistivity, and is stable and rot-proof. Although Faswall is more commonly used for above-grade walls, we used it for the foundation and found it quite manageable for first-timers.
