Madison
Green Map ProjectThe Wisconsin Environmental Initiative has begun coordinating
the creation of a Green Map for Madison and Dane County. Communities
following the lead of Manhattan and Copenhagen are making Green
Maps to celebrate natural treasures of an area and to spotlight
environmentally oriented organizations and businesses. Madison's
version will advance the state of the art in green-mapping by
showing the interrelationships between human development and natural
systems.
The Madison Green Map team included WEI staff and board members,
regional planner emeritus Phil Lewis, Lou Host-Jablonski from
Design Coalition, cartographer Peter Sample and members of the
Urban Open Space Foundation, and with the invaluable assistance
of the University of Wisconsin's Land Information Center.
The project is on hold for now.
