Natural House-Building
WorkshopsWe presented week long, hands-on workshops to teach design and construction techniques for owner-builders. Instructer and builder Robert Laporte of the Natural House Building Center shared a practical, integrated, all natural construction system, which updates centuries-old building wisdom to modern standards.
Lou taught climate-aware and pattern language design concepts; Spark Burmaster entertainingly demonstrated electromagnetic fields and healthy wiring; and world-renowned soil scientist University of Wisconsin Emeritus Professor Francis Hole celebrated the life-giving nature of soil with music and stories. Students from around the U.S. built an addition for a family child care program and learned traditional heavy-timber framing, light clay wall construction, earth plastering and adobe flooring.
We're again presenting natural home building workshops, this time on the site of the Affordable Natural House project. The techniques are similar, and further research into materials has advanced the state of the natural building art.
