"Two Tiers" Childcare VideoSubtitled "Inequality in Child Care, Part 1 - Setting the Goal in Sight", this is the first segment of an intended series. The program explores the experience of childhood in the childcare setting, and the policy choices that the community makes which affect the quality of this experience.
From the synopsis:
"At a time when current research on child development is discovering the links between the quality of childcare and brain development, behavior, and even crime, public policy seems headed in the opposite direction towards reducing resources and quality in childcare.
"As advocates for children develop ways to reach out in the community, we find ourselves searching for effective ways to communicate what exactly quality and dependability in childcare looks, sounds and feels like, beyond the minimum standards. We believe that good TV programming has the unique ability to accomplish this.
"Corporate-sponsored child care centers, childcare providers and specialists from several programs in Dane County [Wisconsin, USA] furnish the primary viewpoints of the program, as well as parents and other concerned citizens. "
"Two Tiers" is a broadcast-quality production which has aired on public television. Design Coalition is one of the sponsors of the project.
