SECTION 01010 SUMMARY OF THE WORK
1.01 VERBAL SUMMARY
Describe the project...
Without force or effect on the requirements of the contract documents, the description of the work of the contract can be summarized as:
Include the following ¶ for demolition and/or remodeling projects, if appropriate
The Owner intends that the Contractor insure that, to the greatest extent practicably possible, all materials removed the existing structure[s] will be reused, prepared for reuse, or recycled. All nonusable items or material will be disposed of in the most environmentally sensitive manner, as defined or approved by the Owner.
1.02 WORK DONE BY OTHERS
Describe any work to be done by Owner or other prime contractors, or delete Article.
1.03 CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
The requirements of the work are contained in the contract documents and include cross referenced material not necessarily bound in the contract documents.
1.04 EXISTING CONDITIONS
Contractors are responsible for observing existing conditions that are relevant to the work. Failure to account for existing conditions which are observable, or reasonably inferred from observation will not be accepted as a reason to change contract amounts. Notify the Architect immediately if, during bidding or construction, existing conditions prove to be incompatible with the contract documents.
1.05 CONTRACTOR USE OF THE PREMISES
Edit following Article as appropriate to the project.
During the entire construction period until substantial completion the Contractor will have the exclusive use of the site. Make every effort to cause a minimum of damage to site and existing trees, and protect trees on and adjacent to the building site both from physical damage and from root compaction within 12 feet of the trunk center.
Delete above or below or add your own paragraph
The Owner intends to occupy the premises during the time period of the construction. Accordingly the Contractor shall make every effort to communicate with the Owner regarding potentially dangerous, noxious, noisy or inconvenient processes and activities made necessary by the execution of the Work, and seek to carefully schedule, with the Owner's agreement, and minimize by all means possible such dangers and inconvenience to the Owner.
Other items to be included in this section are those that affect the entire project, including awards of single or multiple contracts, pre-purchased materials and equipment, work done by owner, and sequence or phasing requirements.
1.06 OWNER-FURNISHED ITEMS
If the Owner intends to provide items for the Contractor to install, mention the items here, referenced to the Drawings or other documents to give a Bidder an accurate idea of the installation work required. If the Owner is a non-profit, it should obtain advice on sales tax implications.
1.07 ECOLOGICAL PRACTICES
Depending on the size and complexity of the project, incorporate all construction and demolition waste management information and requirements into a stand alone Section, OR distribute construction and demolition waste management information and requirements throughout related documents. Edit this Article as appropriate. Coordinate with other Sections to avoid conflicts or duplication.
General: Carry out Work in a manner which will minimize creation of waste and debris.
Waste and debris shall be property of Contractor and shall be removed and disposed of in a legal manner off Owners property. Separate, store, protect, and handle at the site identified recyclable and salvageable waste products in order to prevent contamination of materials and to maximize recyclability and salvageability of identified materials. Transport those salvaged items not to be reused in the Work from the site as they are removed. Do not bury or burn debris on site.
Rebates, tax credits, and other savings obtained for recycled or reused materials shall accrue to Contractor.
Recycled Materials: The Contractor warrants to the Owner and Architect that materials and equipment furnished under the Contract will be of good quality and either new or recycled unless otherwise required or permitted by the Contract Documents. Submit alternates to use recycled or more environmentally sensitive materials and equipment instead of specified items.
Recycling Requirements: Implement a recycling program. To extent practical, each of the following types of construction waste [and demolition debris] shall be collected separately for salvage, reusing, recycling or disposal in an environmentally sensitive manner, as defined or approved by the Owner:
Excess excavated materials.
Asphaltic concrete materials.
Portland cement concrete materials.
Porcelain plumbingware.
Clay bricks.
Ferrous Metals.
Nonferrous Metals.
Wood.
Plastics.
Glass.
Plant material.
Paper, including bond, newsprint, and cardboard.
Roofing materials.
Glass fiber insulation.
Paints, coatings, thinners and solvents.
Gypsum board.
Toxic or hazardous materials.
Other materials
Handling: Materials shall be free of dirt, adhesives, solvents, petroleum contamination, and other substances deleterious to recycling process. Clean materials which are contaminated prior to placing in collection containers. Arrange for collection by or delivery to appropriate recycling facility or transfer station that accepts construction and demolition waste for purpose of recycling. Arrange for timely pickups from the site or deliveries to recycling facility in order to prevent contamination of recyclable materials.
1.08 FORBIDDEN PRACTICES
Edit to prohibit undesired activities and practices. These requirements are for "healthy" buildings.
Do not use any toxic substances including, but not limited to, pesticides or noxious cleaning products anywhere on the site.
Inspect all vehicles and equipment entering the site, and prohibit equipment which leaks hydraulic fluid, engine oil, or fuel.
Prohibit the operation of fuel powered generators or other fuel powered equipment inside the building.
Prohibit smoking within the new or existing buildings, or open fires within the building enclosure or on the premises.
