SECTION 02710 — FOUNDATION DRAINAGE

PART 1 — GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION

Extent of foundation drainage system is shown on drawings.

PART 2 — PRODUCTS

2.01 DRAINAGE PIPE AND FITTINGS

Drainage pipe to be 4" Perforated ABS Plastic pipe, with filter sleeves. Preference will be given to products with recycled plastic content.

Furnish drainage pipe complete with all bends, reducers, adapters, couplings, collars, cleanouts and joint materials necessary for a properly operating system.

2.02 SOIL MATERIALS

Impervious fill to be clayey gravel and sand mixture capable of compacting to a dense composite.

Drainage fill to be an evenly graded mixture of natural or crushed gravel or crushed stone, and natural sand with 100% passing a 1/2" sieve and no more than 5% passing a No. 50 sieve.

Filtering material to be an evenly graded mixture of natural or crushed gravel or crushed stone, and natural sand with 100% passing a 1-1/2" sieve and no more than 5% passing a No. 50 sieve.

PART 3 — EXECUTION

3.01 UNDERFLOOR DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Excavate for underfloor drainage system after subgrade material has been compacted but before drainage fill course has been placed. Provide a clear horizontal distance between drain pipe and trench wall on both sides not less than 2 times the diameter of drain pipe, unless otherwise shown. Grade bottom of trench excavations to required slope and compact to a firm solid bed for drain system. Apply and compact impervious fill material to raise low areas or where unsatisfactory bearing soil may occur.

3.02 FOUNDATION DRAINAGE SYSTEM

Filtering Material: Place supporting layer of filtering material over compacted subgrade where drainage pipe is to be laid to depth indicated or to a compacted depth of not less then 4". After testing drain lines, place additional filtering material to a 4" depth around sides and on top of drains.

Laying Drain Pipe: Lay drain pipe solidly bedded in filtering material. Provide full bearing for each pipe section throughout its length, to true grades and alignment, with continuous slope in direction of flow. Lay perforated pipe with perforations down and joint tightly closed in accordance with pipe manufacturers recommendations. Provide collars and couplings as required.

Testing Drain Lines: Test or check lines before backfilling to assure free flow. Remove obstructions, replace damaged components, and retest system until satisfactory.

Drainage Fill: Place drainage fill over drain lines after satisfactory testing and covering of drain lines with filtering material. Completely cover drain lines to a width of at least 6" on each side, and above pipe to within 12" of finish grade. Place fill material in layers not exceeding 3" in loose depth and compact each layer placed.

Fill to Grade: Apply impervious fill material over compacted drainage fill, placing material in layers not exceeding 6" in loose depth and thoroughly compacting each layer. Carry impervious fill to indicated elevations, allowing for topsoil, sod, walks and other surface materials.
