Division 2 has great potential for the incorporation of products and materials with recycled content, depending on the nature of the project. Significant factors in the generation of waste in this division include site clearing, demolition, selective demolition, and repaving.

SECTION 02110 — SITE CLEARING

PART 1 — GENERAL

1.01 DESCRIPTION
Describe the work of this Section. Include site clearing, tree removal and demolition of minor structures, but not excavation. Coordinate with other Division 2 Sections.

1.02 TRAFFIC

Conduct site clearing operations to ensure minimum interference with roads, streets, walks, and other adjacent occupied or used facilities. Do not close or obstruct streets, walks or other occupied or used facilities without permission from authorities having jurisdiction.

1.03 PROTECTIONS

Provide temporary fences, barricades, coverings, or other protections to preserve existing items indicated to remain and to prevent injury or damage to persons or property. Apply protections to adjacent properties as required.

Protect trees and other designated features and areas by erecting a high visibility construction fence, a minimum of 3' high. Locate fence no closer to trees than the drip line.

Restore damaged work to condition existing prior to start of work, unless otherwise directed. Use licensed arborist for tree damage repair. Replace damaged trees that cannot be restored to full growth, as determined by arborist, unless otherwise acceptable to Architect.

All marketable trees designated for removal are to be sold. All other vegetation is to be ground, chipped, or shredded for mulching and composting, or where these options are not possible, for use as mill pulp or process fuel.

Provide erosion control and seeding if not immediately used.

PART 2 — PRODUCTS

2.01 SALVAGEABLE ITEMS

Carefully remove items indicated to be salvaged, and store on Owner's premises where indicated or directed.

PART 3 — EXECUTION

3.01 SITE CLEARING

Remove trees, shrubs, grass, and other vegetation, improvements, or obstructions as indicated or which interfere with new construction. Removal includes digging out stumps and roots.

Strip and stockpile topsoil that will be reused in the work for final grading and landscaping.

Remove existing improvements, both above-grade and below-grade to extent indicated or as otherwise required to permit new construction. Separate organic and inorganic material. Place materials defined as hazardous or toxic waste in designated containers.

Set aside and protect the following surplus and uncontaminated waste materials:

Edit to suit project and location.

Deliver to or arrange collection by employees, individuals, or organizations for verifiable reuse or remanufacturing. Dispose of remaining removed and demolished items, including trash and debris, off Owner's property. Burning of waste materials on site is not permitted.

Control air pollution and water runoff problems caused by dust, dirt and erosion; comply with governing regulations.

Fill below-grade areas and voids resulting from demolition operations. Use satisfactory soil materials, placed in 6" deep horizontal layers with each layer thoroughly compacted.

Grade ground surface to conform to required contours and to provide surface drainage.
