SECTION 07317 WOOD SHINGLES
PART 1 GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
The extent of wood shingle roofing is shown on the Drawings.
1.02 DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
Deliver materials in the manufacturer's unopened bundles, rolls or containers with labels intact. Store materials to avoid water damage, and store rolled goods on end. Comply with manufacturer's recommendations for jobsite storage and protection.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
Submit a sample of shingle product to be used to the Architect for approval prior to installation.
PART 2 PRODUCTS
2.01 WOOD SHINGLES
Grade 1 Blue Label (Red Cedar Shingle & Handsplit Shake Bureau) western red cedar sawn shingles, 18" in length.
2.02 MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS
Underlayment at entire roof: Asphalt-saturated felt, No. 15
Interlayment: Asphalt-saturated felt, No. 30
Nails: Hot-dipped zinc-coated steel of type and size recommended by the RCS & HS Bureau.
Valleys: 26 ga. galvanized steel, double crimp shape, 10 minimum each side
PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
Proceed with shingle roofing work only when the substrate is completely dry.
Space adjoining shingles with approximately 1/4 gap and 5 total exposed surface, nailing each shingle with 2 nails spaced 3/4" from the edge of the shingle and 1" above the butt line of the subsequent course. Stagger edge joints a minimum of 1-1/2" in succeeding courses. Cut and fit shingles at edges and trim to provide maximum weather protection.
Install with doubled starter course, overhanging the top starter slightly to form a drip edge
Install metal flashing and vents as indicated an in accordance with the details and recommendations of the Wood Shingle and Wood Shake section of the "NRCA Roofing and Waterproofing Manual".
Replace any damaged shingles and remove shingle debris from the site.
