As a backer for ceramic tile, CBU is preferred. Moisture resistant GWB should not be used. However, Georgia-Pacific's Dens-Shield®, a gypsum board with a water resistant coating and a silicone-treated core is a less expensive alternative. It is also lighter and easier to handle, but its warranty is only 20 years.
