Significant factors in the generation of waste in this Section include corrugated cardboard, packing materials, hazardous solids and fluids, protection, and flooring offcuts.
Some tiles have recycled content. Beware that some paving tiles with high recycled glass content have very poor wearing characteristics, being easily scratched.

Before installation, verify that substrate surfaces are sufficiently level (1/8" in 8' for walls and 1/8" in 10' for floors) and clean for proper installation. Report unsuitable conditions to
the General Contractor before proceeding. Before tiling, be sure surfaces to be tiled are free from coating, curing membranes, oil, grease, wax and dust. Beginning of installation means acceptance of existing conditions.
3.02 INSTALLATION
Setting Methods:
Glazed wall tile: TCA method W244, Latex-modified thin set mortar bond coat.
Unglazed porcelain ceramic tile: Latex-modified thin set mortar bond coats with crack isolation membrane. Follow membrane manufacturer's instructions.
Quarry tile: TCA method F113, Latex-modified thin set mortar bond coat.
Pavers: Latex-modified thin set mortar bond coats with crack isolation membrane. Follow membrane manufacturer's instructions.
Extend tile work into recesses and under or behind equipment and fixtures, to form a complete covering without interruptions. Terminate work neatly at obstructions, edges and corners without disrupting pattern or joint alignments. Apply color matching sealant at all vertical corners do not grout.
Accurately form intersections and returns. Perform cutting and drilling of tile without marring visible surfaces. Carefully grind cut edges of tile abutting trim, finish or built-in items for straight aligned joints. Fit tile closely to electrical outlets, piping, fixtures and other penetrations so that plates, collars or covers overlap tile.
Lay tile in grid pattern. Align joints when adjoining tile on floor, base, walls and trim are the same size. Layout work and center tile fields in both directions in each space and on each wall area. Adjust to minimize cutting. Provide uniform joint widths.
Install moisture-resistant gypsum wallboard with paperbound edge horizontal-tape but do not finish joints. Seal surface of taped joints. Follow manufacturer's recommendations regarding adhesive. Allow minimum of 24 hrs. after setting tile for solvent evaporation before grouting.
3.03 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
Clean tile in accordance with applicable ANSI standard for type of tile and method of installation used and manufacturer's instructions. Apply heavy Kraft paper or other heavy protective covering to prevent surface damage.
3.04 PROTECTION FROM TRAFFIC
Prohibit all foot and wheel traffic from using newly tiled floors for at least 3 days, preferably 7 days. Place large, flat boards in walkways and wheelways for 7 days where use of newly tiled floors with cement type grout is unavoidable.
