Off-the-Grid Country Home
Dane County, Wisconsin
This young couple's property is thousands of feet away from the nearest power pole. So a photovoltaic --that is, solar electric-- system makes good economic sense. High-performance walls, passive solar heating and passive cooling will combine to make a very comfortable and energy-efficient structure.
These concept sketches show a modest-sized home that uses materials such as metal roofing and board-and-batten siding in a fresh architectural re-interpretation which recalls the farm buildings of this rural Wisconsin landscape.
