Major Addition on a Tight Site
Madison, Wisconsin
The lots are narrow in this older Madison neighborhood, and designing extra space onto homes can take some ingenuity. The lively lines of this rear addition blend seamlessly with the original house -- and push right up to the zoning setback lines to accomodate a new master bedroom suite and a screened porch, and create enough space to correct the awkward original kitchen and dining room layouts.

The narrowness of the lot provided no possibility on for a garage to store bikes or other equipment, much less an automobile. The solution lay in utilizing the every nook of space under the porch and deck. Terraced steps navigate the significant slope of the site.
