St. Croix Environmental Center
Hertel, Wisconsin, USA

(above) An entry-reception area will feature displays showcasing the tribe's environmental programs and provide access to new meeting/conference spaces within.

Still in the planning stage, this is a design for a large addition to an existing vehicle storage garage and its small service offices. The combined facility would bring together currently-scattered staff into a new environmental center for the St. Croix nation.
(below) View from the South with solar collectors and clerestory. The existing vehicle garage is at left.

Windows on all sides provide the offices daylight (controlled, to save on cooling costs) and expansive views to the surrounding natural setting.

(cross section, above) A clerestory provides natural daylight and creates spacial interest at the interior. The open office space will be heated via a radiant slab, allowing it to adapt flexibly to changing staffing needs.
