Urban Half-block

Madison,WI

the renovated block in the early morning

 composite picture before renovation

This project brought four bouldings back into active use. The historically sensitive facade reconstruction of half a block over the span of several years in an historic neighborhood also included upgrading to the interiors and rear parking lot. The composite picture of the block (above) was taken before reconstruction.

Award: Historic Preservation Award from the Madison Landmarks Commission/Dane County Cultural Affairs Commission, 1983.
reconstructed building front

the new 'connector' portion of the block

The facade at left was completely removed and reconstructed using old photos as a guide. The one-story "connector" building (above) was a recent addition, which received a compatible (but deliberately not "historic") architectural treatment.
